Fazbear's Fright Dark Ride Project
Background/Formulating the Idea
I’ve wanted to work on building, maintaining, & designing rides all my life. I never thought it was possible aside from a distant hope of possibly working at Disney one day, until I came upon carnival dark rides for sale online. With a simple one-trailer dark ride costing about as much as a really nice new car, I saw a project that could bring these passions into reach.
When most people think about trailer-loaded dark rides they think of loud buzzers & poorly-painted skeletons. I thought exactly the same until some random ride-video-surfing (one of my growing habits) lead me to some top-quality Ghost Trains in the US. But even the best ghost trains are still missing something, I think.
I feel like the main draw of dark rides are the scenery & atmosphere, when we look at larger, more successful rides like The Haunted Mansion or Spaceship Earth. What these rides need is an original, concrete, theme and more customized props (I think The Haunted Hotel in Myrtle Beach did the best thematically and in terms of decoration, but it still could use more!). With most of these rides you can tell that they’re props you could get at any halloween store. I feel like they’re still lacking originality.
So I thought about what I would want to build for a ride like this, and OF COURSE Five Nights at Freddy’s was the first thing that came to mind. I actually sketched out ideas before I even came across the 3rd game, which features a theme park with an attraction based on the infamous Bite of ‘87. Now I had a name & a concept that was cannon in the game universe, that I could bring to life; Fazbear’s Fright.
I’ve been working in the fursuit business pseudo-professionally (I feel like I’m just now staring to get a hang of it) for 7 years now, and I’ve been thinking about the future more. I know I don’t just want to make fursuits for the rest of my life (although I plan to for a while!), it just isn’t enough. I eventually want to work at Disney (EPCOT in particular!) repainting sets, replacing model skins, and everything else that comes with maintaining things like Spaceship Earth & Imagination. But I can’t do that without moving to California or Florida, and I feel like there’s a link in-between. I feel like this project could fill that experience gap.
What Can YOU Do to Help?
Right now this entire project is in it’s design phase. Basically, I’m putting my ideas out there to see how much interest it gets. So, if you think this is a good idea & something you’d want to see, SHARE IT! Talk about it with people who'd enjoy it, let me know if this is something you’d go on if you saw it at a convention!
The more interest it gets, the more likely I’ll be to make things like prototypes for props, swag like t-shirts & hats, and of course it’ll bring this idea that much closer to reality!
If it does happen to get to the point where I think a kickstarter would actually work or any money would be involved, I would contact Scott Cawthon to see about royalties & any permissions he’d need to be written out for this project to happen.
As of right now I’m NOT asking for money, just enthusiasm!
You can follow me on Tumblr, Twitter, YouTube or Facebook! Since Tumblr is the most multi-media-friendly, all of my most comprehensive updates get posted there! I'm currently working on a walk-around animatronic Mangle head to advertise with!
